Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are a cosmetic procedure that involves the application of a chemical solution to the skin, which causes the outer layers of the skin to peel away. The goal of a chemical peel is to remove damaged or dead skin cells, which can lead to a smoother, more even skin texture and a brighter complexion.

Chemical peels can be used to treat a variety of skin concerns, including fine lines and wrinkles, acne, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone. The strength and type of chemical solution used will depend on the individual's skin type and the specific concerns being addressed.

There are three main types of chemical peels:

  • superficial,

  • medium,

  • and deep.

Superficial peels are the mildest and use a gentle acid to exfoliate the skin's surface. Medium peels penetrate deeper into the skin and are effective in treating moderate sun damage, acne scars, and fine lines. Deep peels are the strongest and can address more severe skin issues such as deep wrinkles, scars, and hyperpigmentation.

After a chemical peel, the skin may be red, sensitive, and flaky for a few days to a week, depending on the strength of the peel. It is important to avoid sun exposure and wear sunscreen during the healing process to protect the newly treated skin. A series of peels may be recommended to achieve the desired results.
